Executive Coaching

Lead Well. Work Well. Relate Well.

Individualized coaching for leaders and professionals seeking greater effectiveness, stronger relationships and greater clarity.

What Could Be Different?

Leadership can be rewarding—and demanding.

The challenges that bring leaders to coaching are not always about a lack of ability. Often, capable and successful people reach a point where the strategies that helped them get where they are no longer work as well as they once did.

You may be navigating greater responsibility, difficult workplace relationships, an important transition, persistent conflict, competing priorities or decisions without obvious answers. Or you may simply recognize that there are areas in which you want to lead, communicate and relate more effectively.

Executive coaching provides a focused setting to step back from the demands of the day-to-day, examine what is happening more clearly and identify practical ways to move forward.

Perhaps you would like to…

A Psychologist's Perspective on Leadership

Leadership is about people—not just performance.

Leadership challenges rarely exist in isolation. How we communicate, respond to pressure, handle conflict, make decisions and relate to others is influenced by patterns of thinking, emotion, behavior and relationships.

As a psychologist and executive coach, I bring an understanding of human behavior and relationships to the practical challenges leaders face. This perspective can help identify not only what needs to change, but also the patterns that may be making change difficult.

My approach to coaching combines psychological insight with practical, goal-directed strategies. The objective is not psychotherapy or mental health treatment. It is to help you better understand yourself as a leader, recognize patterns affecting your effectiveness and translate that understanding into meaningful action.

UNDERSTAND

Develop greater awareness of your leadership style, strengths, patterns and impact on others.

Todd E. Linaman, Ph.D., executive coach and psychologist.

CHALLENGE

Examine assumptions, habits and ways of responding that may be limiting your effectiveness.

APPLY

Turn insight into practical changes in how you lead, decide, communicate, and relate.

How Executive Coaching Works

Focused. Collaborative. Practical.

Executive coaching begins by identifying the professional challenges, goals and opportunities that matter most to you. Together, we clarify what you want to accomplish, identify patterns or obstacles that may be getting in the way and develop practical strategies for moving forward.

Coaching is individualized rather than based on a predetermined program or package. The focus may evolve as circumstances change, new challenges emerge or progress creates new opportunities for growth.

1 — CLARIFY
Identify the challenges, priorities and outcomes you want to address.

2 — WORK
Explore patterns, consider new perspectives and develop practical strategies for change.

3 — APPLY
Put insights and strategies into practice, evaluate what is working and refine your approach.

Sessions are conducted through secure video telecoaching. Frequency and duration are determined collaboratively based on your goals and needs.

Executive Coaching or Psychotherapy?

Two distinct services with different purposes.

Executive coaching is a professional-development service focused on leadership effectiveness, workplace relationships, communication, decision-making and other professional goals. It is not psychotherapy, psychological treatment or mental health treatment, and a coaching relationship does not establish a psychotherapist-patient relationship.

Psychotherapy, by contrast, is a clinical health care service that may involve assessment and treatment of emotional, behavioral, relational or mental health concerns.

Because I provide both services, I am careful to establish which professional relationship we are entering from the beginning. If concerns arise that would be better addressed through psychotherapy or another form of clinical care, we can discuss appropriate options or referrals.

Experience Matters. So Does Fit.

Effective coaching requires more than a set of techniques.

For more than two decades, I have worked with executives, business owners, managers and other professionals facing the opportunities and challenges that come with leadership. My perspective has also been shaped by serving in executive leadership roles and by earlier work in organizational consulting, leadership development and professional training.

Those experiences allow me to understand leadership from more than one vantage point—as a psychologist who understands human behavior and relationships, as a coach who helps people translate insight into action, and as someone who has personally experienced the responsibilities and pressures of organizational leadership.

Today, my coaching practice is intentionally focused on individual executives, leaders and professionals, as well as business partners working together on shared professional goals.

The Right Fit Matters

A productive coaching relationship requires trust, openness and a willingness to examine both strengths and areas for growth. The complimentary 15-minute consultation gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what you hope to accomplish, answer initial questions and determine whether working together appears to be a good fit.
